something missing...

Sometimes I feel as though something is missing...like something isn't right. Its been awhile since I've seen my friends and I'm glad I finally met up with them. I realized what I've been missing. Having my friends around makes me feel complete and a lot happier. Laughing and chatting like old times. Sharing thoughts and feelings and catching up is really what I've been missing recently. I've been having dreams of my kids. I've missed them and I miss teaching them. Sometimes I regret declining my position and using the excuse that I was too busy. I wonder if I'll ever teach again. Maybe that's why I can't wait to graduate and pursue my career and later on get my masters and teach in my older years. I think a part of me always enjoyed teaching and sharing my knowledge with others.

Anyways, enough with the mopey dopey stuff. Hannah arranged for us girls to go eat at Sala Thai on Burrard. It is voted on Georgia Straight for 2007-08 for the Golden Plates Readers Choices as well as for 2008-09 Best Cuisine. So, we decided to check this place out. For appetizers we had the Sala thai special appetizers with 4 golden baskets: crispy waffle shells filled with minced chicken, corn and onions. 2 spring rolls, 2 steamed floral dumplings: filled with minced chicken, peanuts and palm sugar (very pretty to look at) and tofu delight: deep fried tofu served with mixed vegetables crisped to a golden brown served with homemade sweet chili plum sauce and peanuts.

Then we had the Tom Yum Soup: hot and sour broth blended with exotic spices, mushrooms, fresh lemon grass and kaffir lime leaves with shrimp.

For entrees we ordered the sweet and sour pork, their famous pad thai (my favorite dish that night), and pineapple fried rice.

Overall, the food was just so so. The appetizers were pretty unique and tasty. The soup was too salty and I was craving for it all day for the soup which wasn't to my expectations. The sweet and sour pork tasted like any chinese dish you can get at the food court and the pineapple fried rice tasted like garbage. It had a rotten taste to it and the smell was revolting. I think they reused the pineapple shell to hold the fried rice. And I really think the pineapple is rotten. It was very disappointing...the worse I've ever had.

The pad thai was my favorite it is there number one specialty on their menu. Its the best pad thai I had so far.

The service...oh my...she was very rude. We asked her nicely if we could exchange seating near the window and she said that the people who called in reserved the window spot. She was very rude about it and didn't sound at all nice. Secondly, she recommended drinks to us but it tasted like cough medicine so we asked her to exchange it for something better and she didn't want to until we decided to talk to the manager she finally gave in and said she would exchange our drinks.

Overall, the experience wasn't as I expected it to be. The atmosphere and decor was gorgeous though. And the place was busy and most of the tables had patrons. Would I go back? probably not...there is many places in Vancouver that offer thai food that I haven't tried yet and I would like to try those out before I ever come back there again.
