Hai Phong

I decided to go have a Vietnamese family meal with my family at Hai Phong. I usually go here for their pho but this time I ordered the family styled shared plates. I ordered the tamarind crab: which was very flavorful but one crab wasn't enough for 7 ppl. Next time I'll order 2 probably. The sauce was a little salty so my mom had ordered a side of rice. Next up was the Thai hot pot. It wasn't spicy at all but mostly sour and sweet. The sweetness was very overpowering. I didn't mind it but I prefer the sourness to overpower the sweetness. The ingredients was alright. Wasn't the freshest of quality. Decent for what you get at a pho restaurant. My sister ordered a bo bun hue which was very light in flavor, tasted mostly of white carrot soup. So I was disappointed with the flavors and my mom ordered the duck soup vermicelli but there was barely any meat mostly bones and my mom claims there was also chicken in there. Disappointed once again. We also had the raw beef. Which was super raw. But the flavors were there. My favorite of the night was the Canh Chua (sweet and sour fish soup). Plenty of fresh ingredients: okra, elephant ear, bean sprouts, tomatoes, pineapple etc. Love it best I had so far! Overall, an alright meal. If you asked me if I would come back again I would say yes but I'll probably just get a number 1 large pho noodle soup or a canh chua.
