Spa Service at Merle Norman

Last Friday, I visited Merle Norman at Metrotown for a deep cleansing facial that included a neck massage and extractions. Overall, the service was pretty well done. For the facial it was $65 for a service for an hour and a half. They gave me a skin whitening mask as well as a cool cucumber mask. I'm glad I wasn't allergic to the products they have given to me because my skin is sensitive to certain products especially fragrant skin products. I also added a eyebrow wax service that was $16. Overall, I will return. They recommended me to go every one a month. And I'm pretty sure they will see me again.

Hair Service at Air Plus Hair Salon

It's Friday! It's Friday the 13th oh my! so update on my Japanese Hair Straightening service on tuesday...this was a service of a total of 4 hours I was there from 4-8pm with a master stylist of course. so basically this is how it works:

-you get your hair washed (she was great with the head massage the best I had so far) and I had 4 I believe in total
-a protein conditioner is applied in my hair
-a cream based thio relaxer is then applied. This will soften the hair and disassociate the sulfur bonds inside the hair shaft.
-After a period of time (15-20mins) the stylist would do a test to see if the hair has broken down to the right degree
-Once the proper amount of sulfer bonds have been disassociated the stylist will rinse the hair
-The hair is then dried into the style you would normally wear it in.
-The stylist will then take small sections and apply some degree of tension to get your hair as straight as possible. (combing and flat ironing took place)
-once the neutralizer has been on the hair for the proper amount of time it will be rinsed from the hair
-after the hair is rinsed it will be dried again and ironed into the style you wish to wear.
-the neutralizing chemical only begins to re-associate the sulfer bonds. The hair still needs to absorb more oxygen and will do so naturally through the air.
-the stylist will then instruct me not to shampoo, wet or style my hair for 2-3 days (this is really uncomfortable for me cause I still haven't washed my hair till now...and it feels really gross)
apparently this helps it to allow it to complete neutralize into the current shape.
-my stylist also advises me to use special after care products and this lasts around 6 months. Basically until your hair regrows from the top and you see that unstraightened areas...that's when you go get your roots done

Today, I'm trying a new place for a facial at Merle Norman at Metrotown it's $65 for a deep cleansing facial because I wanted to have extractions done....hopefully they would do a great job update of experience to follow.

Back to Blogging....

It's been awhile but I've decided to start blogging again....this past weekend...the sun was out and a started my weekend with going to my bf's friend's place for a bbq. This wasn't just your normal bbq it was a bbq to celebrate the life of his father. A dear friend's dad past away and after the funeral there was a get together and we had bbq. I learned a new drinking game called beer darts...if you haven't tried it it's really fun actually...a little dangerous but fun to watch. The next day...woke up...worked out..back to the insanity workout regime....had a breakfast and prepared for another bbq...at my bf's place...had chicken, steak and pork...it was delicous...my bf recently started the paleo diet which consists of 70% meat and the rest veggies/fruits/nuts. Haven't eaten so much meat before but it was good nevertheless. Afterwards we headed out to vancouver downtown to hang with our friends at guu garden...had a appetizing yaki udon and some fresh sashimi of toro (tuna belly), king salmon and hamachi. Sunday came and we both worked out, had a breakfast made from bf of bacon, eggs and sausages....deliciousness came out of cooking with bacon fat. Afterwards we headed out to Kits beach to do the relaxing, tanning and just enjoying the beautiful weather we had...headed out to memphis blues on commercial and we all shared an elvis platter which consisted of pulled pork, ribs, beef brisket, coleslaw, potato salad, corn bread, beans, smoked sausages, fries etc. It was quite delicious the meal was smoky and the meat was very tender.

Tomaya Japanese Restaurant

For my dad's birthday we decided to head to Toyama for late night sushi for $13.95 per person. It was a tuesday night and it wasn't busy at all. We were seated quite quickly and since we waited till 9pm for dinner we were all quite hungry. Here is what we partook in:

Squid salad

Kimchi

spinach with bonito flakes (new fave)

spinach with sweet peanut sauce

sunomono salad

edamame beans

calfornia roll, scallop roll, salmon/tuna cone, avocado cone, house roll

squid rings

tuna, toro, salmon sashimi

Overall, the food was quite salty and the portions were small. If your looking for all you can eat sashimi you won't be able to get it here. The service was prompt and the food came out quick but the quality wasn't up to par for me.
