On November 21, 2015 was my dearest friend, Na Thi’s wedding
day. I was honored to be her bridesmaid for this special day.
I started the day waking up at 3:30am to get showered,
changed, packed and ready to head out at 4:45am to Na Thi’s parents place.
Phuong my best friend picked me up around 5am that morning to get our hair and
makeup done. Na Thi flew in her photographer and 2 makeup/hair/custom artists
from the company from LA to create a Cambodian wedding. Na Thi’s father was
Cambodian and Na Thi’s mother was Vietnamese.
The two artists were working on Lynna (bridesmaid) and her
sister: Phung (maid of honor). We quickly undressed ourselves and got into our
Kimonos that Na Thi had purchased for all of us.
I had to wait for my turn so I decided to steam iron her
dress and help her out with the wedding favors.
Once makeup and hair was done we had to get dressed into our
Cambodian outfits which consisted of 6 outfit changes throughout the day/night. Our first outfit consisted of a beige lace wrap on the top
and a beautiful patterned pink cloth wrap on the bottom. Our hair were curled
and put onto the side.
At this time we were behind scheduled about 30-1hr behind.
So we had to cancel the door activities (groom getting the bride). The groom
came in to worship the ancestors and then we all headed to the hall for the
rest of the ceremonies.
The weather was cold but it was sunny which was good. We
headed to the hall to prepare for the ceremony. The ceremony consisted of a
priest who conducted the whole meeting, hair cutting ceremony, ribbon tying,
monk chants etc. Overall a wonderful cultural experience. I loved every outfit
I changed into and I was happy to see everyone who came out to support Na Thi
and her husband, Michael.
Afterwards we headed to Queen Elizabeth Park to do some
photos. It was extremely cold during this time which was around 4-5pm. The sun
was about to set but we were able to catch some sunlight before the sun went
down.
After the photos were down we headed to Sun Sui Wah for the
dinner. We helped out with the flower décor and got dressed for the next event.
We walked in with the rest of the bridal party and we got introduced to the
guests. The food was great and the waiters and waitresses gave us their
complete attention and service. Overall, I had a great meal. Speeches followed,
kisses happened.
The night was still young so afterwards we had some dancing
and music to enjoy for the rest of the evening. Tommy her brother did a
wonderful job of djing that night. Overall I had a wonderful time, experience and
I am so lucky to have such a wonderful friend in my life. I am so happy for her
and I fell completely in love with Michael’s family. They were so warm and
loving and kind to each and every one of us. I wish Na Thi and Michael a
wonderful life together filled with joy and happiness.
