Sun Sui Wah

A friend of ours gf came to visit Vancouver from Australia and since she wanted chinese food we went to Sun Sui Wah on main for dinner. We ordered the king crab cooked in three ways: steam with garlic and butter, deep fried and fried rice. This was the most enormous, delicious and creative ways of cooking king crab. The flavours were great not to salty not to bland. But an immense amount of food for 4 people. We had a 7 lbs king crab first time ever in my life. Never eaten so much king crab. We ordered stir fried pea shoots and to start off a piece of squab. Overall, a great meal with great company.

Al Porto Ristorante

Went for a stagette party last weekend for dinner we visited Al Porto. I ordered a virgin ceaser and a vongole pasta. The ceaser was spicier then expected but it was still tasty. The vongole pasta was overly seasoned with salt. The pasta was al dente but apparently we had to wait about 2 hours for our food. Fortunately I arrived late so when I ordered my order came right away. Overall, a great place to have pasta for a cheap price. My bill alone plus gratuities was $30.07. Not bad for downtown.

Bun Cha Ca Hoang Yen

This place is situated on Victoria. My uncle recommended this place to my mom who recommended me this place. They are known for there fish cake soup. I got the hot and sour seafood soup which consists mostly of squid and prawns. It was neither hot or sour mostly overly salty. Apparently my family said it was an off day for them. The flavors were impactful but nothing over the top. We also had the spring rolls (it was ok I prefer the Vietnamese wrapping over the Chinese wrapping). And we shared a plate of wings which was nicely battered but lacking in flavor. My brother ordered the fried fish which was great. Delicate in flavor but soft and moist. Overall, a place I probably won't go back to. This place is small and usually filled with people.

Miku

For Mother's day weekend I decided to take my mom out for lunch at Miku. This location was located near Canada Place so the view was gorgeous. We got seated by the window. We ordered the Premium set menu for lunch that day. For $42.00 the price wasn't that bad. We first started out with the miso soup, then we had the 4 selections of food that includes the sous vide chicken, the sablefish, the oyster/prawn and the tuna salad. Overall, the chicken wasn't dry especially when it comes to white meat. The sablefish was perfectly cooked, flaky and soft and buttery. The sauce was great on the oyster. My only complaint was the kale in sesame/peanut sauce. The sauce was too overwhelming. Afterwards, we had the torched seared sashimi and the salmon and prawn oishi sushi that they are famous for. I prefer my sashimi raw over seared and I wish I had told my server but for next time I prefer my sashimi raw. The salmon oishi was my favorite. Smooth to the taste, melt in your mouth sensation. Afterwards we had the mango cheesecake which was delicious. It came with a passion fruit sorbet that was just delightful. Overall, a great meal, exceptional service. I will most definitely try this place out again!

Lotus Thai Restaurant

We celebrated mother's day quite early this year due to conflicting schedules between us siblings. My mom decided she wanted to try out this new Thai restaurant in Richmond so without hesitation I quickly yelped and zomato this place to read the reviews. There was only one and it had 5 stars. The pictures weren't very appealing: dark and dim and poorly lit. But what can I say I'm not a professional photographer either. The images on the photo was a mix of Chinese, Thai and china cuisine. So my obvious reaction is low expectations. We made reservations and already one table was seated with four older ladies. We ordered the set menu for $98 which included: tom yum soup, 4 chicken skewers, vegetable stir fry, curry crab, mango pudding, 4 bowls of rice, stir fry beef with veggies and free range chicken. This was a set menu for 4 ppl so we ordered extras to our order. We ordered the mango salad, chicken skewers, beef skewers, cream sauce crab, green curry with beef and 4 more bowls of rice. Overall, I wasn't too full but satisfied. This place definitely exceeded my expectations.  There was definitely Thai flavors in the dish but I just wish the dishes were spicy. It wasn't spicy at all. I don't usually eat spicy but there was no spiciness in all of the dishes except the mango salad. I was quite disappointed. The beef skewers were very dry. The chicken skewers with white meat was tender and one of my favorite dishes of the night. The curry crab was also delicious. Fried to perfection and the sauce was great. It would have been better if it was Thai spicy. If you are called Lotus Thai you need to put Thai spiciness into your dish. The baked chicken was very dry. I probably would never get it again. The green curry said 3 chilies for spiciness but there was not hint of spiciness whatsoever. Parking is also very limited in that plaza so beware! Overall, a great meal but the prices are quite high for what you get.
