Cafe Mai Mai

Yesterday me, bf and little sister went to eat at Café Mai-Mai. A restaurant that replaced L’Orangrie’s location on Marpole. This was a no msg Vietnamese restaurant that serves the basic foods such as spring rolls, salad rolls and pho noodle soup. We tried the No. 2 house special which is rare beef with noodles. It definitely didn’t taste like the pho you would get at a regular pho restaurant. The broth was much meatier and darker and it tasted like the pho soup you would make at home. Similar to my mother’s beef broth soup. I also had a chai latte which was probably instant chai because they took only 2-3 mins to make it. I didn't like the flavour of the Chai it was authentic Chai from India. Overall, the food was alright. I prefer the soup to be sweeter but I guess that’s just the msg working its magic in the soup broth. And the soup wasn’t hot enough. They also mixed up my order. I ordered 2 large bowls and they gave us 1 large and 1 small. The noodles were ok not to soggy not al dente either. I prefer my noodles al dente with boiling soup. The meat was soft and tender just the way a like it. They were lacking in food toppings but overall an alright restaurant. Would I go here again? Probably not. I can make similar quality at home.
