Galiano Island, BC

This past weekend was bf's birthday so I decided to plan a mini getaway to Galiano Island in BC. We stayed at the Galiano Oceanfront Inn and Spa which was a BC ferries package I had purchased for a 3 day 2 night stay. The inn was quite outdated but for a community of 1,000 ppl you can only expect so much. The inn was located right at the dock where the ferries land. We had a gorgeous view of the waters outside our room. We got to the island about 7:30 pm on a Friday night and we just ate on the ferry for dinner. We shared the chilli fries and the chicken pot pie. We purchased some wine in the market nearby and we just settled in for the night. The next day we headed for an early breakfast of coffee and eggs benny at the restaurant in the inn. I quite like it simple flavors and the Earl grey tea was amazing. Simplicity at its best. We then went for a 30 minute steam bath. Which wasn't much and then a hot tub session. Afterwards, we showered and got ready to go have some lunch at the outdoor patio which served clay oven pizza. We shared the margarita and the duck confit pizza (inspired by asian flavors) nothing fancy. Afterwards we drove about 12 mins to the pier where we took our first kayaking lesson. It was about a 3 hr tour. It was fine nothing drastic. I quite enjoyed the peacefulness around the island. I would definitely kayak again now that I'm less of a beginner. Afterwards we went back home to shower and got ready for our meal at the Pilgrimme. This was a farm to table kind of restaurant. They take local fresh ingredients around town to make a family style meal where you share the dishes. It was just two of us so we just let them decide what was best for us both. So we left our dinner experience to the chefs. Here is what we had: missing is the pickled cucumber and the plum squares to end the night.

The pita with the salsa verde/tomatillo

Egg custard with apples, basil and squash

Burnt butter with potato bread made in house

Ahi tuna with honey dew and cantelope with a puree on the bottom-our favorite of the night

Sea urchin mouse with fish egg with raw beans and a sea kelp dressing

Seasoned apples with a creamy potato mash

Some char veggies with a bean sprout/lentils/alfalfa veggies and pickled califlower

This was a super adventurous dish of basically flash grilled quail so most of the meat was raw

This was our very first farm to table meal and we really enjoyed our experience to let the chefs do the choosing of our dishes of the night.

Afterwards we wined down and enjoyed the nature around us.

Sunday was our last day there. We checked out around 11 am and drove around the island. We stopped by some parks to take a look around. I love the forestry, tropical part of the island. Hiking around the area is quite different from Vancouver. It rains there off and on, so its hard to predict the weather there. A very small island with not much to do we had some ice cream at scoops and had Indonesian/German food at the food truck near the ferry dock. Overall, we had a relaxing time away from home.
