Garibaldi Provincial Park

This past weekend, bf, me, George and Tana decided to go hike up Garibaldi and camp there for the night. We started waking up around 7:15am on Saturday and headed over to Tana's place to carpool to Squamish. We headed out around 9am and got to Garibaldi around 10:30am. We grabbed a bite to eat before our trip at Tim Hortons. I had a sausage egg muffin with hot chocolate. We then talked to the park ranger to see if the camp site was full at Garibaldi but, Taylor Meadows was available so we started off hiking up to Taylor Meadows which took about 3 hours. Camping fee is $10.00 per person. And then we decided to go all the way up to the Garibaldi Lake to check out the area and the camp site. I'm so glad we did because there was around 4 campsites still available so we took one for the night. The view was amazing. Apparently the park ranger said that the fish in the water is trout. Some parts of the water were green, some were crystal blue. The air was fresh and the view was definitely breathtaking. There was snow on the glacier mountains and apparently the night before we went it was snowing. So we were very glad that the night we stayed wasn't. It was my first time carrying all my camping gear while hiking. My bag was about 20 lbs. I carried my clothes, my sleeping pad, food while bf carried the rest. Once we got to our site and cooked some food. We were starving. This was my first time having dehydrated camping food. Me and bf shared the lasagna and Persian peach stew with chicken. I prefer the lasagna over the rice because the Persian rice was a little sour and the flavors weren't familiar to my palate. We had milk tea with our meal. Afterwards, we starting to put up our tents and settled in comfortably in our tents. We explored and grabbed some water on the way to filter. Time went by quickly and it was time to have dinner. Me and bf had the Alfredo Fettuccine which turned out to be Pad Thai. The labeling was incorrect. So we were grateful our friends had Pad Thai for lunch or else we wouldn't know exactly how much water to add and how long to wait. We also had the Caribbean black bean with rice to share. And we had 'After Eight' mint hot chocolate to accompany our meal. It was quite cold during the night. We weren't allowed to build campfires on this mountain due to the preservation of the animals and the vegetation around. I believe it went down to minus 5 temperature wise. Thank goodness I bought 3 jackets and lots of clothes to layer up. I remember halfway up the mountain I had started to feel really cold so temperature fluctuates on where you are on the mountain. Afterwards, we went towards the lake to capture the scenic moment of the moon's light grazing the calm water. It was a beautiful sight. This day was the day before the Chinese Autumn Moon Festival. We headed back and had an dehydrated Neapolitan ice cream bar to share. The texture is much like marshmallows but chalky. But the flavors were there. You just had to leave everything in your mouth to soak through. Afterwards, I brushed my teeth and got ready for bed. The sleeping bag was much needed because the amount of clothes wasn't enough for me to sleep through the night. I'm also very glad we had the sleeping bad or else the moisture from the ground would have seeped into the tent. The tent was also very good it kept most of the moisture away from dripping inside. Overall, I'm very glad we have the high tech equipment we need for this trip. Oh and about the bathroom. We were situated very closely to the bathroom we were glad the smells from it didn't seep through to our camp site. The smell inside was deadly. My bathroom breaks were quite fast so I'm glad I wasn't there for too long. Overall, sleeping was cold but it wasn't as bad as I thought it would be.

The next morning we woke up around 9am. We got ready and packed up to go. We left about 10am. And we got back down around 12:30pm. It was definitely worth the trip to go see the beautiful views you see only in pictures but once you see it in real life its a very different interpretation. Overall, a wonderful first camping trip of the year!
